Liz McCord was still working when her husband, Ray Lieberman, joined ELLA. He would blissfully pack paper and pens in his briefcase and jaunt “off to school”.
After Liz retired in 2007 or 2008, she too became involved with ELLA. She loved the courses in law and politics and modern history. She also enjoyed Jeff McCune’s courses and those of Anne Fanning and Michael Roeder.
Liz has been a dynamic part of the Program Development Humanities Committee for several years. She really enjoys the people she has met and gathering with fellow ELLA students for lunch in the cafeteria.
In recommending ELLA, she says “It’s great to do just what you are interested in. There are no required courses, no exams. You just have to listen.”
“Another great thing about ELLA is that the instructors really enjoy having us as students because we are enthusiastic and ask questions and really become part of the class. They also enjoy the breadth of experience of ELLA students and their participation in class discussions.”
Why has ELLA remained so popular? “It gives people what they want, flexibility, a wide diversity of courses and excellent instructors. And they thrive in the camaraderie, too.”
