In this course we will calm our “monkey minds”, reconnect with body needs, find ways to activate what is movable, strengthen what is weak and restore your energy in a supportive environment. Participants will explore how yoga can support a calmer mind and healthier aging. It is not necessary to have previous yoga experience or a flexible body in order to participate. Exercises are modified in order to make them accessible and beneficial for all bodies.

The tools to be explored are:

– simple breathing exercises to bring awareness to body sensations, calm the nervous system and slow down the thinking process;

– introductory yoga-based movements to free the joints, gently stretch the muscles, help develop more strength, balance and flexibility.

The pace will be progressive and the participants will be encouraged to move within their capacity. A few minutes of guided relaxation will close each session.

Instructor:  Anita Sielecki

Anita Sielecki has been practicing yoga since 1974 and started working in biochemistry research at the U of A in 1976. Certified as a yoga instructor in 1990, she taught for Campus Recreation since 1993. In 1996 she took early retirement, leaving her career in science behind in order to dedicate her time to the teaching of yoga and meditation, preside over The Yoga Association of Alberta for 10 continuous years and organize numerous yoga/meditation retreats in Alberta with remarkable international teachers.
