Five Elements is a foundational Qigong Practice. It trains us to harmonize and balance the energies of the Five Elements within us in order to maintain health, vitality and emotional wellbeing. There will be approximately 10-15 minutes of verbal teaching per class exploring theory and application. The remaining time will be a standing physical movement practice and a seated meditation. This course is suitable for ELLA learners who are new to qigong and also for those who have practiced qigong before. The Five Elemental Energies are the building blocks of all manifest life, and each energy has specific characteristics and properties. Five Element Theory forms a part of the foundation of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It arose out of study and observation of patterns, phenomena, functions and transformations that were seen in the natural world. It recognizes that we are intimately connected to and related to nature.

Instructor:  Jaime Mattae

Jaime Mattae is passionate about sharing her love of Qigong and all of its many benefits. Jaime is a Holden Qigong certified teacher and has completed Holden Qigong training in Five Elements, Three Treasures, Healing Sounds, Microcosmic Orbit, Tao Yin, Buddha Palm, Iron Shirt, Five Animal Frolics and more. She is also a certified teacher of Zhan Zhuang (Standing Qigong) and Ba Duan Jin (Eight Pieces of the Silk Brocade) by her Laoshi, Dr. Michael T. Caley, of Mountain Water Qigong. Jaime also has an avid interest in the field of natural health including western herbalism, naturopathy, nutrition, homeopathy and traditional Chinese medicine, and she has worked at a local clinic for many years. When Jaime is not doing Qigong, she is spending time in nature, walking, cycling, paddling and camping. She also enjoys playing her many ukuleles.
