PLEASE NOTE: The first two classes, on January 13 and January 15, will be three hours (9 a.m. to 12 noon) and the remaining classes will be two hours (9 a.m. to 11 a.m.) for a total of 30 instruction hours.
Explore the bold colours and expressive brushwork of Paul Cézanne, the Post-Impressionist master who redefined how we see the world. This course offers a fresh approach to painting landscapes and still life by emphasizing simplified forms and using colour and brushwork to convey structure, depth, and emotion. Through guided exercises and close studies of Cézanne’s work, such as Mont Sainte-Victoire, develop essential skills in colour mixing, composition, and confident mark-making. Working with gouache, a versatile and vibrant medium, discover how to capture the essence of a scene with looseness and clarity. Each session builds on the last and encourages a more intuitive way of painting. In the course you will create a personal series of expressive works inspired by Cézanne’s approach and gain a deeper understanding of form, colour, and artistic expression. Ideal for all levels, especially those seeking creative exploration.
