In this beginner class we will explore the history up to the modern interpretation of traditional rug hooking. Different materials, backings and tools will be explained. Each student will learn how to hook a small mat. This is a hands-on class with demonstrations and lots of chances for class discussion and questions.

*** NOTE: Each participant will need to purchase a kit from the instructor costing approximately $40.  In addition, participants should bring an embroidery hoop, medium sized, 12 to 16″ and a pair of small sharp scissors.

 

Instructor:  Laurie Wiles

Laurie Wiles has a BSc in home economics from the University of Alberta. She is a McGown certified instructor and has taught traditional rug hooking internationally. Her rugs have won many awards and have been featured in Rug Hooking magazine. They have also been featured in Celebrations, a juried rug hooking publication. This year she will be inducted into the Celebrations rug hooking hall of fame.
