In this course, learners will discover that by changing how we manage our soils, lands, watersheds and public spaces we can generate incredible benefits for our planet and human health and wellness. Learn how improving our soil and water quality improves drought resiliency; generates immense amounts of stable and functional soil carbon and organic matter; increases biodiversity which fosters ecosystem resilience and stability; and allows us to grow incredibly nutritious food, drink clean water and breathe clean air. Learners will discover the simple management methods that allow these amazing natural phenomena to occur whether it is in their own backyard, urban greenspaces, industrial agricultural applications or even continent-wide. Learners will have a more educated eye about land management practices and think about what is working and what could be improved. Learn how to implement these practices to improve your personal health and that of your families. The course offers an optimistic and positive view. Instructor: Kevin Aschim
Kevin Aschim is a presenter on subject matters related to regenerative land management and human health and wellness as well as various topics related to gardening, agriculture and ecology. Kevin worked in the chemical industry for 35 years primarily in the fields of water and wastewater treatment, agriculture, fertilizers and pulp and paper. He is currently vice-president of the Big Lake Environment Support Society, a group dedicated to the protection and stewardship of Big Lake and surrounding areas. He is also a member of the City of St. Albert Environmental Advisory Committee. Kevin has a BSc in Forestry and an MBA from the University of Alberta. Kevin lives in St. Albert and enjoys gardening, hiking, running, canoeing, bird watching and plant identification.
