Introductory sessions include the basics of winemaking and wine tasting and an understanding of white and red varietals. We then learn about the wines of France & Italy, Spain & Portugal, Canada/US & Australia, and Chile/Argentina/South Africa. Finally we will explore the principles of food and wine pairing. Each session will include at least 4 wines to sample and discuss.
****NOTE**** This class is an evening course which takes place at Vines Riverbend Wine Merchants, located at 2331 Rabbit Hill Road in Edmonton. As it is a Spring Session class, it is included in the pricing for Spring Session. There will be additional costs of $20 payable to the instructor. The class takes place on Monday, Wednesday, Friday during weeks one and two of Spring Session, between 7 and 9 pm. During week three, there will be a Monday class between 7:00 and 9:00 pm and a Wednesday class between 7:00 and 8:00 pm, for a total of 15 instructional hours. Discovering the World of Wine Additional Information
Instructor: William Bincoletto
Formally educated as a sommelier in France and Italy, with additional training in Germany, William Bincoletto was Alberta’s first certified sommelier. He has extensive experience in both retail and the hospitality industries, as well as being a wine consultant and former educator for the International Sommelier Guild (ISG). He has also been the official spokesperson for wine and food pairing at the World Association of Chefs Societies Congress, both in Chile and South Korea, as well as past “Sommelier in Residence” of the NAIT School of Hospitality where he worked closely with great Canadian Chefs like Susur Lee, David Adjey, and Rob Feenie.
