Rising Seas and Sinking Islands: The Politics of Climate Change Refugees

During Sustainability Awareness Week, Global Education will screen the award-winning documentary “Anote’s Ark,” a film which explores the struggles of the small island nation of Kiribati in seeking a new homeland for its people. The film will be followed by an interactive discussion on the central challenges facing climate change migration today, led by Dr. Nicole Marshall.

Dr. Marshall is a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Political Science at the University of Toronto.  She completed her PhD in 2015 at the University of Alberta on climate change migration, ethics, international law, and policy and has since had her work published in three leading journals in her field.  Nicole is currently writing a book-length manuscript on the significance of place vs. property for ‘sinking’ island nations and their people.
