Don’t wait registration closes Tomorrow ! ELLA is excited to announce the return to University of Alberta on-campus learning for Spring Session May 2-20, 2022!

Registration opens April 5 @10:30 a.m. and closes April 26 @ 6:00 p.m. Registrants must be 2021/22 ELLA members.

Classes are led by experts in their field of study, and you’ll have the opportunity to be challenged, have fun, meet new friends and reconnect with past classmates. There are no prerequisites or exams. Courses are designed to promote mental and physical wellness and explore a range of topics in Fine Arts, Sciences, Humanities, Wellness and Leisure. Courses can be purchased as bundles of 1- 4 for $299 and run every day for the 15 days of Spring Session. Spring Session Timetable. Courses are on a first-come, first-served basis and because of Covid-19, room capacity has been reduced by 50 - 60% depending on the room.

Over 35 courses are offered, some of these are:

22-W20 Line Dancing - Tracy Walters Learn fun and easy dances to a wide variety of music including country, pop/rock, and Celtic, just to name a few. 

22-H19 History of Canadian Working People - Alvin Finkel This course outlines the development of Canada as an industrial society with a focus on the people whose work built our nation-state.

22-W9 Simplified TaiJi Quan - Wu Style -Wai Keung Ken Chui Elegant, graceful, circular movements help to relax while building harmony, coordination and balance in the body.

22-H14 The Origins and Evolution of French Presence in Alberta - Denis Perreaux This “People’s History of French in Alberta” approach requires an understanding of its speakers, both those who were born into a French setting and those who chose one.

22-H21 Data Stories for Public Health Action - Amy Colquhoun We will discuss how data has been used historically to inform public health action and will also explore current applications, including outbreaks of infectious and non-infectious disease.

22-A9 Introduction to Choral Singing - Erin Craig If you have had a lot of experience as a choral singer, or absolutely none, there will be something new in this course for you.

Course Facilitator:

The opportunity you have been looking forward to –>Volunteering as a Course Facilitator!  The role is similar, yet a bit different from previous Spring Sessions (in-person).

Key activities: introduce the instructor at the first class; some announcements / information sharing throughout the session; no distributing or collecting of paper.

 Attend one of the Information-orientation sessions via Zoom during the last two weeks of April.

  Ambassadors:

And another great opportunity to support ELLA colleagues during Spring Session as an Ambassador!  This role is also similar, yet a bit different from previous Spring Sessions (in-person).

Key activities: Often the first contact for members when they enter the Education building as the Ambassador starts the ‘welcome to ELLA’s Spring Session’.  Greeting, wayfinding, assist at the ELLA Information table and special events (Art show, Annual General Meeting).

Attend one of the Information-orientation sessions via Zoom during the last two weeks of April.

 Covid Protocols – ELLA Spring Session will be following the protocols in place at the University of Alberta  at that time. Closer to the date we will post these on our my-ella.com website. To facilitate a safe environment, ELLA has reduced capacity in classrooms to 50% to 60% of the stated capacity and encourages members to wear a mask. Protocols are subject to change.
