Children’s Gallery Volunteer

Join the Royal Alberta Museum Children’s Gallery Volunteer Team to help our youngest visitors explore, create and play in an environment built just for them!

Qualifications: 

  • Enjoy interacting and engaging with young children (toddlers to age 8), past experience working with children is a plus
  • The ability to be imaginative and creative
  • The ability to bend, squat, pick up small objects and sit on the floor
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to speak another language is an asset
  • Criminal record and vulnerable sector check

 

Responsibilities:

  • Welcome and positively engage with visitors of all ages
  • Assist visitors with the exploration of materials in our Makerspace
  • Create a captivating open learning environment for all visitors
  • Ongoing cleaning, maintaining and replenishing of gallery areas during shift
  • Support Museum Educators in their programming
  • Complete required training

Time Commitment:

  • Minimum of a 6 hours per week and a 6 month commitment
  • Shifts are 5 to 6 hours in length and available 7 days a week from 9:30am to 4:30pm, evening shifts on Thursdays (along with Friday evenings in the summer months)

SENIORS TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM
University of Alberta Technology Training Centre (B-11 Cameron Library Basement, University of Alberta)
1-4 p.m. on various dates
$25/class

The University of Alberta Technology Training Centre is launching a new seniors program. They are hosting Wednesday afternoon sessions where seniors can learn about technology. The first four topics are:

  • September 12: Introduction to Cellphones
  • September 26: Taking Pictures with Your Phone
  • October 17: Transfer Pictures from Phone to Computer
  • October 31: Online Personal Security
Seniors are welcome to take one or as many sessions as they are interested in. The teaching component will be 1-1.5 hours long with plenty of time to ask questions and enjoy some free refreshments.
