Through interactive activities and discussions, participants will delve into key themes such as public opinion, polarization, democratic backsliding and the influence of social media. The course features the character of “Joe Albertan” to personalize the political culture narrative and also incorporates insights from Indigenous perspectives. Each lecture blends theoretical insights with practical, hands-on activities tailored for adult learners, ensuring an engaging and comprehensive learning experience. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the forces driving Alberta’s political culture and develop skills to critically analyze current and future political developments.
Instructor: Jared Wesley
Dr. Jared Wesley is Associate Dean (Graduate Studies), a professor of political science and member of the Black Faculty Collective at the University of Alberta. He studies the links between public opinion, public policy and political culture. His career path has included several senior management positions with the Government of Alberta. Based in Edmonton, he is a lucky husband and proud father of two daughters.
