Students will require a ukulele for this online course. Participants should have at least a few months experience with the instrument, and be fluent with basic chords.Course content will include further chord study, including the use of various voicings and chord inversions to create colour in the music. Strum patterns will be taught for a number of musical styles, with an emphasis on understanding the placement of the stresses in the rhythm of the style. Students will learn how to create their own rhythmic patterns for each musical style, using syncopation and various strumming techniques. They will learn the notes on the fretboard thoroughly, and how to play scales which fit with each music genre.
Instructor: Gary Glewinski
Gary Glewinski has been a multi-instrumental professional musician and educator for twenty years. He graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Performance, and in 2002 with a Post-Graduate Diploma in Jazz Music from Napier University, Edinburgh. He moved to Canada in 2010, and provides ukulele presentations for teachers conventions and music festivals throughout Alberta.
